Watching the sun set over the rolling hills of the Outaouais from the deck of Cliffside Camp.
If you’ve never experienced fall in the Outaouais, you’re in for something unforgettable. From mid-September to mid-October, the hills explode with fiery reds, brilliant oranges, and shimmering golds — and you’ll have a front-row seat from the comfort of your own private cliff.
Our west-facing camp looks out over rolling forests that stretch for miles, so you can watch the sun dip behind the hills while the entire valley glows with autumn colour. This isn’t just a view — it’s a full-on immersive leaf-peeping experience without the crowds.
Pour yourself a margarita or a glass of wine, settle into a hand-crafted rocking chair, and let nature put on its best show of the year. Whether you’re here for photography, romance, or simply to slow down and breathe in the crisp fall air, this is one of the best places to see fall foliage in Quebec’s Outaouais region.
And when the season changes? The view is still spectacular — from snowy winter wonderlands to lush summer greens. That’s the beauty of booking a 4-season camp rental — every visit is different, but always unforgettable.
Unwind on the deck with your favourite cocktail and the peaceful forest views from Cliffside Shelter
Step inside and you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable, unplugged getaway — in any season. The shelter has a cozy queen bed with fresh microfiber linens, fluffy pillows, and a warm down duvet for those crisp autumn and winter nights. Our new diesel heater keeps the space toasty, even when the snow is falling outside.
Meals happen around the outdoor camp kitchen—rocket grill, camp oven, and campfire-style cooking complete with all the necessary camp cookout essentials. My wife says a French press for your morning coffee is essential! A large cooler keeps your food fresh — just bring the ice. There’s plenty of storage for your gear, and the covered deck offers a panoramic view that makes every meal, drink, or quiet moment feel special.
This is rustic comfort at its best — the perfect camp rental in the Outaouais for couples, solo travelers, or small families looking to relax, recharge, and soak in the scenery. It’s a true rustic camp setup with no electricity, indoor plumbing, or kitchen — just lantern light, a queen bed, and unforgettable views. Think camping with a roof, not a tourist home.
The cozy glow of Cliffside Shelter at night — your private retreat in the Outaouais.
The Cliffside Camp is tucked inside The Ark, our 164-acre property in the heart of Quebec’s Outaouais region. Our 10 km of private hiking and snowshoe trails wind through forest, over hills, and along ridges — and they connect directly to the legendary Trans Canada Trail.
In winter, these same trails host Canada’s longest-running snowshoe race series — The Mad Trapper — and in summer and fall, they’re perfect for hiking, trail running, and wildlife spotting.
White-tailed deer are regular visitors, our resident foxes sometimes make an appearance, and you might spot hawks or even a bald eagle overhead. At our private lake, watch for loons, beavers, and the occasional turtle sunning on a log.
It’s nature at its best — right outside your cabin door.
We’re less than 45 minutes from Ottawa and just minutes from the charming villages of Wakefield and Low. Chelsea and Gatineau Park are a short drive away, making The Ark a perfect base for exploring the region.
The Gatineau River is just 10 minutes down the road, where you can rent one of our canoes and paddle the calm waters above the Paugan Dam, discovering islands and hidden beaches along the way.
The camp is only a 5-minute walk from parking, and we’ll happily shuttle your gear in by ATV so you can start relaxing right away.
Cell reception is excellent, but here, nature is the connection that really matters.
We’re rooted in outdoor education. For years, this site has hosted youth groups and school programs, teaching students how to work together, build resilience, and discover nature first-hand.
Our trails and maps are permanently set up for novice orienteering, giving every group the chance to practice navigation skills and enjoy a true outdoor challenge.
The campfire remains the heart of it all — where lessons turn into stories, and strangers turn into friends.
And for those who want to go deeper, we offer hands-on experiences in off-grid living — from running a sawmill, to making maple syrup, to learning the basics of solar power. The Ark is more than a place to stay — it’s a place to learn how to live closer to the land.
Yes. As of early September 2025, the Cliffside Camp Shelter will be equipped with a diesel heater, making it a cozy 4-season rental. Whether you’re visiting in the crisp days of fall or the snowy quiet of winter, you’ll stay warm and comfortable.
Yes — firewood for your private campfire area is currently free of charge. In the future, we may add a small fee, but we’ll always make it easy for you to enjoy an evening by the fire.
Absolutely. Your stay includes fresh microfiber sheets, pillows, and a down duvet for cooler nights. Just bring your own food, clothes, and toiletries — we’ve got the rest covered.
You may see deer, foxes, loons, or beavers during your stay — and at night you might hear distant coyotes or wolves. These animals keep their distance from people, so you can enjoy the wildlife with complete peace of mind.
All you really need to bring is your food, clothing, and toiletries. If you do forget something, the village of Low is only 5 minutes away and has a dépanneur for essentials. And if it’s something I can provide, I’m always happy to help.
Bring your four-legged friend — our pet-friendly camp is the perfect place for you both to explore trails, chase sunsets, and unwind together year-round.
Whether you’re chasing golden sunsets over fiery fall colours, gliding through fresh snow on snowshoes, or cooling off in a secluded lake on a hot summer day — the Cliffside Camp is your year-round escape.
Fall – The Outaouais’ most spectacular season. Blazing reds, glowing golds, crisp air, and the kind of sunsets that make you forget your phone. Peak colours run mid-September to mid-October, but the warm hues linger well into November.
Winter – Your own snowy hideaway. Cozy up with the shelter’s diesel heater after exploring 10 km of private snowshoe trails (including those used for Canada’s longest-running snowshoe race series). The view from the cliff is magical when the valley is covered in fresh snow.
Summer – Warm days, cool nights, and endless outdoor adventures. Swim in our private lake, paddle the Gatineau River, roast marshmallows by the fire, or simply rock on the porch and listen to the forest.
We’re just 40 minutes from Ottawa — close enough for a spontaneous weekend, yet far enough to feel completely unplugged.
Peak seasons book up quickly. Reserve your spot now and experience the Outaouais at its best.
