Since 2003, the Mad Trapper has welcomed trail runners and snowshoers from across Canada to experience the rugged beauty of our 164-acre forest in Western Quebec. With technical single-track, rolling hills, and stunning scenery, our trails have become legendary — challenging enough for elite athletes, yet welcoming to first-timers and families.

About the Mad Trapper

  • Canada’s longest-running trail and snowshoe race series

  • Hosted on private, 10 km trail network at the Off Grid Ark

  • Distances from 3 km to 50 km, including prediction runs, a dog-friendly fundraiser, and the unique Backyard Ultra and Snowshoe Backyard Ultra

  • Known for its fun, social vibe — post-race BBQs, dogs welcome, and custom cedar plaques

Unlike most race venues, the Mad Trapper isn’t just about competition — it’s about community, family, nature, and adventure.

Each race is an invitation to:

  • Here's some stuffExplore private trails you won’t find anywhere else

  • Experience authentic Canadian hospitality in an off-grid setting

  • Watch families grow together through sport — from kids running their first 3k with mom, to teens winning the 10k outright, to young adults completing their first 50k

  • Take advantage of our family-friendly pricing, with a youth rate that applies as long as mom and dad are footing the bill

  • Be part of a tradition that’s been running strong for over 20 years

Make it a Full Weekend Adventure

Many participants choose to extend their Mad Trapper experience by staying right here at the Off Grid Ark.

Our Cliffside Camp Rental offers a rustic, off-grid overnight stay — the perfect way to enjoy the trails, the stars, and the post-race community atmosphere without rushing home.

We’re often asked if racers can come out to pre-run the course. Since our trails are on private land, they aren’t open to the public outside of race day, and courses are only flagged during events.

However, camp renters are provided with maps and full access to our trail network — and because this access is part of our insured agrotourism programs, it ensures a safe and covered way to experience the trails ahead of time.
