Registered Activity Provider – Gold Project
Overview
This Gold Project option offers candidates a unique, hands-on opportunity to contribute to life on a working off-grid homestead. Participants join Mike Caldwell at The Off Grid Ark — a 164-acre off-grid property in Western Quebec — and take part in meaningful stewardship activities while learning skills connected to sustainability, leadership, and rural living.
This project is designed to be accessible, supportive, and personalized, giving candidates an achievable pathway to completing their Gold-level requirements in an authentic wilderness setting.

Sample 5-Day Structure (Activities vary by season)
Day 1 — Orientation & Off-Grid Systems
Tour of solar, water, and heating systems; safety overview; light duties.
Day 2 — Stewardship in Action
Trail clearing, firewood work, animal care, and seasonal maintenance projects.
Day 3 — Candidate Contribution Project
A practical project selected by the participant (examples: trail improvements, wood processing, sawmill work, signage creation).
Day 4 — Reflection & Adventure
Canoeing, hiking, or snowshoeing; guided reflection session; project summary.
Day 5 — Wrap-Up & Departure
Final duties, debrief, and check-out.
Duration & Cost
Five days, residential — $50/day (covers meals and hosting).
Safety & Supervision
All activities supervised with clear safety protocols. Tasks are matched to ability and comfort.
Assessment
As a Registered Activity Provider, The Off Grid Ark provides all required reports and sign-offs.
